Finding Vegetarian food in Seoul is quite tricky indeed. The choices are really scarce compared to Bangkok!
Nevertheless, I'm trying to locate places that are near the places that we will be visiting.
1. Baru - Vegan / Korean / Buddhist temple style
Address: Temple Stay Building, 2nd & 5th Floor, 71 Gyun Ji Dong, Jongno-Ku
**Note: There's a more moderate priced one at 2nd floor (7000 won per pax for simple buffet, and the expensive one at 5th level
Opening Hours: 7.30am - 10.30am, 11.30am to 8.00pm
Nearest Subway: Anguk (Line 3 Orange) or Jongno 3-ga (Line 5 Purple)
2. Hanguachae (Vegan / Korean/ Very high ratings/ buffet style)
Address: 30-9 Guan Hoon Dong, Jong Ro gu, Insadong (at Insadong Street, subway 3/An-Kuk station, gate 6) --- Located below the ground floor..?
Opening Hours: Mon-Sat 11.30am - 3pm, 5pm-8.30pm, closed Sun.
Nearest Subway: Jonggak Station (Line 1/Dark blue), Anguk Station (Line 3/Orange)
Directions: Take Seoul subway line 1 to Jonggak
Station, take exit 3, walk
straight toward Geumgang Jehwa, turn left at the intersection of
Geumgang Jehwa, turn right at Sudo Pharmacy located centrally on
Insadong Street, walk 100m and on the
left is Han Gwa Chae.
(From review: Note that this restaurant is actually on
Seokjeong-Gil (on the north side approximately 2/3rds of the way down
the block as you head east away from Insadong-Gil, in the basement).
Buffet Price: approx 10000 won per pax
3. Loving Hut - Yonsei University (Vegan / Korean / Western / Fastfood)
Address: 120-834 Changcheon-dong 33-10, Sinchon Seodaemun-gu (at /near Yonsei University gate)
Opening Hours:
Nearest Subway: Sinchon Subway (Line 2/ Green, one stop away from Hongik University!!)
Directions: Sinchon subway stop green line #2, Exit
#2, walk straight around 4 blocks, restaurant is on your left, a few
buildings down from a corner Starbucks. Address in Korean: 서울시 서대문구 창천동
33-10호.
4. Sanchon - Insa-dong (Vegan / Korean / Buddhist temple style)
Nearest Subway: Jongno-3ga (Line 5/ Purple)
Directions: right in the heart of the Insadong
area. It is about mid way between the two ends of Insadong Street. In
Aug 2010, Sanchon had a type of "health food store" right on Insadong -
and the sign said temple food. To get to the restaurant, follow the
little alley right next to the health food store all the way back.
Note: Expensive temple food here. $43 apparently per pax! Ouch!
5. Di Shuei Restaurant (Korean / Taiwanese / Chinese / Western)
Opening Hours: Mon-Sat 11am-8pm, closed Sun.
Nearest Subway: Dongguk University (Line 3/Orange)
Directions: take Metro Line 3 Dongguk Univ Exit 2, walk out
straight and you will see a "太極堂" building, go to alley beside it and
look for "佛光山寺," and the restaurant is in basement 2. Note that the
building does not look like a Buddhist temple, although it does have a
temple in basement 1.
Info: Korean name 적수방, Chinese
滴水坊, address 서울시 중구 장충동 2가 188-6. Offers meals and also sells vegetarian
snacks, biscuits, and sweets from Taiwan. Staff speaks Korean and
Chinese. Recommended: Vegetable Mandu (dumplings)
6. Sol-Hyang-Ki (Vegan / Korean)
Address: 140-42, Gae Dong Street (at Jong Ro Gu)
Nearest Subway: Anguk (Line 3 Orange)
Directions: Anguk Station, Exit 3, and it's a 5 minute walk from the train station
Note: On level 2, there is no lift. Staff speaks little english.
7. Jack's Bean (Vegan / Middle Eastern) (walking distance from Hongik Univeristy!!)
Address: Wausan-Ro 27 Gil, Seokyo-Dong, Mapo-Gu
Nearest Subway: Hongik University (Line 3/Orange)
Hours: Open Mon-Sun 10:30am-9pm, closed 2nd and 4th Mon.
Info: Middle Eastern restaurant
offers falafel wraps and salads, chickpea soup and more for vegans. Has
outdoor seating. Accepts credit cards.
8. Oh Se Gae Hyang (Korean / Chinese)
Insa-Dong 4 Gil (at Metro:1 line JongGak/3 line AnGuk/5 line JongRo3Ga)
Nearest Subway: Jonggak (Line 1), AnGuk (Line 3), JongRo-3ga (Line 5)
Directions: This is up towards the north end of Insadong at
the end of a side road to the east of Insadong-Gil (there are other
restaurants along this side road). Its located beside Ssazmie-gil. come across this chinese word 尋牛and turn into that street.
